Foguang Dictionary of Buddhism (佛光大辭典)  梵語skandha,巴利語khandha。音譯塞建陀。舊譯為陰、眾。乃積集之義,謂許多物事聚集一起,系指有為法而言,如五根、五境等諸色(物質)聚集,即稱為色蘊。
 諸師對蘊之解釋有異。據辯中邊論卷中載,蘊有三義:(一)非一義,謂不論其于時間或空間,均有許多質量。(二)總略義,謂聚集所有。(三)分段義,謂依性質不同而分類。俱舍論卷一亦載有三義:(一)和合聚義,謂種種物事聚集一起。(二)肩義,謂肩能荷擔眾物之故。(三)分段義。又摩訶止觀卷五上則載陰有二義:(一)蔭蓋義,謂色聲等之有為法蔭覆真理。(二)積聚義,謂色聲等之有為法積聚生死之苦果。此外,大乘法苑義林章卷五本以為‘陰’之梵語音譯為缽羅婆陀,‘眾’之梵語音譯為僧伽,故 skandha 譯為‘蘊’才是正譯。

Ding Fubao - Dictionary for Buddhist Studies (丁福保:佛學大辭典) (術語)梵名塞建陀Skandha,舊譯曰陰。陰覆之義,謂色心之法,蔭覆真理也。新譯曰蘊。積集之義,謂色心之法,法大小前後等積集而成自體也。色蘊,心蘊等。義林章五本曰:“梵雲塞建陀,唐言蘊,舊譯名陰(于禁反)。此陰是蔭覆義,若言蔭者,梵本應雲缽羅婆陀。(中略)或翻為聚,故法華雲:五眾之生滅,此亦不然。若言眾者,梵本應雲僧伽。或翻為聚,此亦不然。若言聚者,梵本應雲曷羅陀。”俱舍論光記一之餘同。俱舍論一曰:“聚生門種族,是蘊處界義。”頌疏界品一曰:“聚謂積聚,即是蘊義。”然新譯之仁王經上,並用二義。曰:“色名色蘊,心名四蘊。皆積聚性,隱覆真實。”
